Tyler King promoted to Business Manager
Posted June 26th, 2017 @ 5:59 pm

BROOKS, AB (June 26, 2017) – The Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) have appointed Tyler King as the organization’s new Business Manager, effective immediately, it was announced today.

In his new role, King will oversee the entirety of the team’s off-ice operations, supervise personnel, and help to ensure the organization’s ongoing financial success. He will continue to direct the team’s game-day operations, oversee team communications, produce media and social media content, and lead the team’s broadcasting initiatives.

“Over the last 2 years Tyler has taken our media presence to a degree unsurpassed at the Junior A level,” said Bandits general manager Ryan Papaioannou. “From our in-house video to social media content, the Bandits have become a nationally recognized brand, but today’s announcement is more about what takes place behind the scenes.

“Tyler has given the Bandits organization a keen eye for new ideas, revenue generators and cost saving strategies along with becoming a lead for national event opportunities,” Papaioannou added. “In his new role as Business Manager, Tyler will lead the organization down the path of self improvement, growth and accountability.”

King joined the Bandits in the 2015 playoffs before being named the organization’s first-ever Manager of Communications in June of that year, a role in which he has served for the past two AJHL seasons. Prior to that, he spent four years as first a radio broadcaster, then radio program director, and finally team Manager of Communications for another organization.

“Tyler King has proved conclusively that he is a substantial asset to our organisation,” said Brooks & District Junior A Hockey Association President Paul Seaton. “He is held in the highest regard at every sector, from our supporters through to the board of directors.

“He has talents and abilities well beyond the mantle of Manager of Communications and has made gainful contributions to all facets of the Bandits’ increasing work load, thereby removing pressures from the volunteer effort,” Seaton added. “Tyler fully deserves this augmentation of his role and we look forward to his increased participation in our unrelenting quest to further refine our operation."

King also served as chair of the Brooks Bid Committees for both the 2018 and 2019 RBC Cups, the latter of which was successful in bringing the national championship tournament to the Centennial Regional Arena. It was the second such process in which King has been successful, after leading the compilation of a successful bid for the 2015 Western Canada Cup earlier in his career.

“I am extremely grateful and honoured by the confidence placed in me by Ryan to take on this new role,” said King, “as well as the ongoing support and assistance of Paul and our Board of Directors. I’m looking forward to this new challenge as a great opportunity to even further position this Bandit brand as most prominent in the Canadian Junior A community, and set it up for that prominence to be sustainable in the long-term.”

The coming season will be King’s seventh in the AJHL and ninth overall in the CJHL.
