BROOKS, AB (October 16, 2019) ? Brooks Bandits defenceman Corson Ceulemans (Beaumont, AB) has been named to the Canadian roster for the upcoming World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, it was announced today.
Ceulemans, 16, is one of only three Junior A players in the 66-player roster, which will be split up into three Canadian teams that will compete against five international entries from November 2nd to 9th in Medicine Hat and Swift Current.
The 6?2?, 190lb defenceman is currently the fourth-highest scoring defenceman in the AJHL with 10 points (1 goal, 9 assists) in 12 games in his first full Junior A season. Last year, Ceulemans dressed in five regular season games as an affiliate for Brooks, then joined the team full time after his prep school campaign with OHA Edmonton, scoring 2 goals in 3 AJHL playoff games, and adding 4 assists in 10 games of the Doyle Cup and National Junior A Championship.
The University of Wisconsin commit is the second Bandit player to ever compete at the World Under-17s, after defenceman Jarrod Gourley who competed in 2015 and won a gold medal.
Brooks will host a pre-tournament game for the event on Thursday, October 31st at 7:30 PM when the Czech Republic takes on Sweden. More than 1,800 NHL draft picks have competed at the event since its inception in 1986.
