Bandit defenceman Scanlin named AJHL Defensive Player of the Week

BROOKS, AB (February 19, 2019) – For the second time in the last three weeks, Brooks Bandits defenceman Brandon Scanlin (Hamilton, ON) has been named the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Defensive Player of the Week.

Scanlin, 19, scored 7 points (2 goals, 5 assists) in 3 games over the long weekend, as the team defeated Camrose, Olds, and the Calgary Mustangs to extend their record-breaking win streak to 29 games.

The points put Scanlin’s season total to 39 (16 goals, 23 assists) in an injury-shortened 36 games played. Despite significant missed time, the University of Nebraska Omaha commit is the 10th-highest scoring defenceman in the AJHL this season.

It’s the fifth time this season a Bandit player has won the award; Pierce Charleson (Aurora, ON) won in October, Jordan Di Cicco (London, ON) in November, Tanner Marshall (Kelowna, B.C.) in December, and Scanlin won for the end of January and beginning of February.

The Bandits are back in action Friday night for Charity Jersey Night supporting the Alberta Childrens Hospital Foundation, hosting the Camrose Kodiaks at 7 PM. Tickets are available online at tickets.brooksbandits.ca.
