BROOKS, AB (October 31, 2016) – Brooks Bandits goaltender Mitchel Benson (Windsor, ON) has been named the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Player of the Week for the week of October 24 – 30, the league announced today.
Benson, 18, went 2-0 on the week in road victories over two first-place AJHL North division teams, the Fort McMurray Oil Barons and Bonnyville Pontiacs. Benson stopped 19 of 20 shots in Fort McMurray on Thursday and 20 of 21 shots on Friday in Bonnyville, recording a 1.00 goals against average and .951 save percentage.
He was acquired from the Victoria Grizzlies of the BCHL in a trade on October 16th and has started all 3 games for the Bandits since that trade.
