Bandits acquire AMHL champion Conley

BROOKS, AB (September 21, 2015) – The Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) are pleased to announce the acquisition of 1997-born forward Will Conley (Strathmore, AB) from the Waterloo Black Hawks of the United States Hockey League (USHL).

Conley, 17, played last season for the Midget AAA UFA Bisons, placing third on that team in scoring and helping to lead it to its first-ever Alberta Midget Hockey League (AMHL) championship. Conley scored 30 points (14 goals, 16 assists) in 31 games and added 15 points (9 goals, 6 assists) in 13 post-season games, with the ninth goal coming in UFA’s 5-0 championship-clinching win in Game 5 over the CAC Canadians.

“We are happy to have Will back in Alberta and joining our program,” said Bandits head coach and general manager Ryan Papaioannou. “He gained some experience at the junior level with Waterloo and we expect him to be able to contribute to our lineup in a meaningful way.”

At the Telus Cup, the 6’0”, 185lb forward added 4 points (3 goals, 1 assist) in 7 games as the Bisons finished fourth in the national championship tournament. He also scored 1 goal in 4 games in the AJHL as an affiliate for the Okotoks Oilers, and played twice in Waterloo’s USHL pre-season schedule.

Conley is expected to join the Bandits this week, and travel with the team on its upcoming road trip to Fort McMurray on Friday, and Bonnyville on Saturday.

The Bandits’ next home game is Friday, October 9th when Brooks hosts the Calgary Mustangs at 7:00 PM at the Centennial Regional Arena. Tickets are available by phone at (403) 501-0122, online at tickets.brooksbandits.ca, or in-person at the Bandits’ office in the CRA.
