BROOKS, AB (June 1, 2017) – The Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) have acquired 1997-born defenceman Geoff Lawson (Metcalfe, ON) from the Ottawa Jr. Senators of the Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL), the team announced today.
The acquisition completes the future considerations owed by Ottawa to Brooks from the December 1, 2016 trade in which Brooks sent 1998-born defenceman Devon Daniels (Thunder Bay, ON) to the Senators.
Lawson, 20, is a four-season veteran of Junior A hockey, having suited up for 211 total CCHL games between the regular season and playoffs, registering 36 points (11 goals, 25 assists) in 162 regular season games, with 123 penalty minutes. Last season, in an injury-shortened year, Lawson scored 5 points (1 goal, 4 assists) in 16 regular season games while serving as team captain.
The 6’0”, 197lb defenceman is committed to attend and play for Robert Morris University, the same NCAA Division I school to which Bandit captain Nick Prkusic (Medicine Hat, AB) graduated after this past season.
In addition to his lengthy CCHL career, Lawson was also named to Team Canada East for the 2015 World Junior A Challenge, where he played in five tournament games.
Bandit season tickets for 2017-18 go on sale this week as Brooks aims for a third consecutive league championship. Tickets will be available for purchase online at tickets.brooksbandits.ca, by phone at (403) 501-0122, or in-person at the Centennial Regional Arena.
