BROOKS, AB (January 26, 2023) – The Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) are pleased to announce affiliate and signed forward Josh Wiebe has committed to Western Michigan (NCAA Division I).

Wiebe currently leads the Alberta Elite Hockey League (AEHL) in scoring with 51 points (16g, 35a) in 31 games with the Calgary U18 AAA Flames. The 6’0, 175lbs, 2005-born forward hails from Calgary, AB.

“Josh has a great stick and has an ability to connect offence and make the players around him better. His game is predicated on production and we are excited to work with before he joins Western Michigan,” said Bandits Head Coach and GM, Ryan Papaioannou.

“Josh has signed with us for next year and will join our team at the conclusion of his current season to become acclimatized to our day to day and give our current team depth at the forward position.”

Wiebe was named the AEHL U18 AAA Player of the Month in November with the Flames. He played in three games with the Bandits during the 2022-23 season, joining the team for three straight road games from December 9-13.

Located in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the Western Michigan Broncos play in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC), where alumnus Ryan McAllister is in his freshman season.

The Bandits are back on the ice on Saturday, January 28th, when they visit the Camrose Kodiaks. Game time is 7:00 pm.
