BROOKS, AB (September 26, 2016) – Brooks Bandits defenceman Dennis Cesana (Providence, RI) has been named the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) Defensive Player of the Week for the week of September 19th – 25th, it was announced today.
Cesana, 18, scored 1 goal and 5 assists in 3 games played over the course of the week, with his lone goal standing up as the game-winner in a 5-2 victory over the Whitecourt Wolverines on Friday night, in which Cesana also recorded an assist.
The 5’10”, 190lb defenceman also notched 4 assists in last Tuesday night’s 7-2 road win over the Olds Grizzlys. His six points rank him second among all defencemen in the AJHL, and second among all rookie players as well.
Cesana is in his first year with the Bandits after spending three years at Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, New Hampshire, and is committed to the U.S. Military Academy (Army) in West Point, New York, to begin his NCAA Division I career.
He is the first Bandit to be named AJHL Defensive Player of the Week, with the award having debuted for this 2016-17 season.
