Bandits double up Canucks in Calgary and sweep season series

CALGARY, AB (February 22, 2020) – A season sweep for the Brooks Bandits (45-10-2) over the Calgary Canucks following a 4-2 victory Saturday night at the Max Bell Centre. The Bandits won all seven meetings with the Canucks this season, outscoring them 47-11 in the process.

Forward Chris Pappas (Toronto, ON) had two goals, while goaltender Ethan Barwick (St. Albert, AB) made 16 saves in the win for his 10th start of the season.

Pappas scored 2:50 into the game, finding a rebound and shooting it past Canucks starter Jay Thomson to make it 1-0 Brooks. However, the Canucks would counter at 7:35 as forward Braydon Jenkins drove to the Bandit net and scored on the forehand to tie the game.

Brooks retook the lead at 9:49 thanks to defenceman Jordan Di Cicco (London, ON), who wristed a low right side shot on a delayed penalty call to make it 2-1 Bandits. Pappas then turned and fired a shot five-hole at 15:57 to give Brooks a 3-1 lead.

Jesse Carr of the Canucks got one back for Calgary at 7:28 to make it 3-2. However, the Bandits would go on the powerplay and reclaim their two goal advantage as forward Randy Hernandez (Miami, FL) scored his team-leading 42nd of the year by shooting from the bottom of the left circle, scoring his 20th powerplay goal of the season.

That proved to be the insurance Brooks needed, as no goals were scored in the 3rd period and the Bandits would win 4-2. Final shots were 43-18 Bandits.

The Bandits wrap up the regular season on Wednesday (February 26th), when they host the Drumheller Dragons, presented by Grant Thornton.

It will coincide with the Bandits Annual Awards Night, which take place before the game. The team will also be drawing a $1,000 Early Bird prize for the 2020 Bandits Lottery, with tickets on sale until the end of the 2nd period.
