Bandits erase 2-1 deficit and score three unanswered in Friday win over Kodiaks

BROOKS, AB (November 19, 2021) – The Brooks Bandits erased a 2-1 deficit in the 2nd period and scored three unanswered in a 4-2 victory over the Camrose Kodiaks Friday at the Centennial Regional Arena, the team’s second straight win.

Forward Ryan McAllister (Western Michigan) scored the go-ahead goal late in the 2nd period which proved to be the game-winner. Goaltender Ethan Barwick made 21 saves, and the Bandits record improves to 21-1-1.

Highlights

Camrose defenceman Robert Kincaid opened the scoring just 4:43 into the game on a right point shot to make it 1-0 Kodiaks. But after Brooks successfully killed off a penalty, forward Aiden Fink (Wisconsin) finished a wraparound attempt at 13:27 to tie the game 1-1. Shots were 10-9 Kodiaks in the 1st.

The Kodiaks reclaimed a 2-1 lead on the powerplay 94 seconds into the 2nd as forward Connor Gourley knocked in a puck off a Roc Truman right circle shot. The Bandits would tie at the 14:51 mark, as forward Devin Phillips (Holy Cross) finished off a last second pass from Zach Bookman (Merrimack) on a two-on-one rush to make it 2-2. With 71 seconds left in the period, McAllister skated hard up the left wing and scored five-hole on Kodiaks starter Spencer Welke to give Brooks a 3-2 lead, their first of the night. Shots were 14-6 Bandits in the period.

The Bandits got some insurance 2:44 into the 3rd period as forward Brendan Poshak (Northern Michigan) found a rebound off a Bookman blueline shot and backhanded a goal to increase the lead to 4-2. The Kodiaks comeback was hampered by a late blow to the head penalty taken by Jarod Newell on the Bandits Devin Phillips, who would finish the game as the Bandits skated to a 4-2 victory. Shots in the 3rd were 11-7 Brooks and 34-23 overall.
