Bandits extend winning streak to seven games following 7-3 Thanksgiving Day victory over Camrose

BROOKS, AB (October 11, 2021) – The Brooks Bandits erased a 2-1 deficit in the 2nd period, and scored five unanswered in a 7-3 victory over the Camrose Kodiaks on Thanksgiving Monday at the Centennial Regional Arena.

The win puts Brooks (8-1) in 1st overall in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) and extends the winning streak to seven games. Goaltender Ethan Barwick made 20 saves in the victory.

Highlights presented by Days Inn & Suites:

Camrose scored first, as forward Callum Gau redirected a puck over the right shoulder of Barwick to make it 1-0 Kodiaks 4:14 into the game. Brooks tied the game on the powerplay with under three minutes to go as forward Devin Phillips (Holy Cross) passed from the right circle to forward Dario Beljo, who did a 180 and shelfed the tying goal. But Camrose retook the lead as forward Michael Lovsin tapped in a behind the net setup with 82 seconds left in the frame. Shots were 15-7 Camrose in the period.

The Bandits tied the game 6:26 into the 2nd period as defenceman Boston Buckberger (Wisconsin) scored from the half wall to make it 2-2. Brooks got their first lead at the 9:39 mark as forward Hunter Wallace (RPI) fired in a shot from the left circle to make it 3-2. The Bandits increased the lead to 4-2 with 2:05 left in the period as forward TJ Hughes (Mercyhurst) tapped-in a Ryan McAllister (Western Michigan) right circle pass. Shots were 19-3 Brooks in the period.

Brooks came out firing in the 3rd period 91 seconds into the period as Phillips one-timed a right circle shot on the powerplay to make it 5-2. Just 25 seconds later, forward Anthony Cipollone finished off an Aiden Fink (Wisconsin) goal line setup to increase the lead to 6-2. Camrose got one back at 9:31 on the powerplay on a left circle shot from Roc Truman. But McAllister would seal the deal with 93 seconds left in the game on a left point wrist shot to make it 7-3. Shots in the 3rd were 14-5 Brooks and 40-23 overall.
