PENTICTON, BC (August 30, 2019) ? In a back-and-forth high-tempo exhibition affair, the Brooks Bandits fell 5-2 on Friday night to the host Penticton Vees, in the first of the team?s three games against BCHL opponents this weekend.
The Bandits rebounded from an early 1-0 deficit to take a 2-1 lead of their own, but found themselves allowing 4 consecutive Penticton goals to notch the final score, despite outshooting their opposition by a 28-19 margin.
After Tristan Amonte opened the scoring for Penticton 6:02 into the game, tapping in a puck set up after an end-to-end rush by Cade Webber of the Vees, the Bandits tied it up on a Corson Ceulemans (Beaumont, AB) shot from the right circle at 16:57.
In the second, the Bandits pulled in front on a perfectly played two-on-one rush when Brayden Krieger (Elora, ON) passed the puck across to Trey Thomas (Williams Lake, BC), who one-timed it past goalie Yaniv Perets to make it 2-1 Brooks.
But Penticton tied it barely a minute later on a David Silye power play shot from the left circle, then pulled ahead at 8:16 on a Lukas Sillinger breakaway goal.
The Bandits outshot Penticton 10-4 in the third, but allowed two more goals, the first a Vincent Nardone goal on a two-man breakaway, then an empty netter from the blue line by Jackson Niedermayer.
Pierce Charleson (Aurora, ON) made 14 saves on 18 shots in the game, while Perets stopped 26 of 28 from Brooks. In a penalty-filled affair, the Bandits went 1 for 9 on the man advantage and 6 for 7 on the penalty kill.
The teams will meet again for the rematch on Saturday night at the South Okanagan Events Centre, with puck drop scheduled for 6:00 PM Pacific, 7:00 PM Mountain. The game can be heard on RealCountryBrooks.ca, or watched online on HockeyTV.
