BROOKS, AB (December 14, 2020) – The Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) are thrilled to announce 2001-born forward TJ Hughes has committed to attend and play for Robert Morris University (NCAA Division I, Atlantic Hockey Association).
Hughes is currently in his 2nd season with the Bandits, registering 3 points (2G, 1A) in 2 regular season games before government restrictions paused the AJHL season. The Hamilton, ON native produced 12 points (4G, 8A) in 10 exhibition games this year, scoring 2 game winners.
Dressing in 58 games during the 2019-20 season, Hughes tallied 36 points (13G, 26A).
? TJ has developed considerably over the last year with us, his ability to impact the game from an offensive standpoint has been crucial to our success this season,” said Bandits Head Coach and GM, Ryan Papaioannou.
“He’s shown the ability time and time again the score of the important goals when the game is on the line. He has a tremendous work ethic on and off the ice, and leads our team in the gym. We look forward to working with TJ again next season, in his preparation for the jump to college hockey.?
Recruited out of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL) where he scored 64 points (21G, 43A) in 47 games with the Hamilton Kilty B’s, Hughes is a grad of the Hamilton Huskies minor hockey program.
Located in Moon Township, Pennsylvania, the Robert Morris Colonials compete in the Atlantic Hockey Association under Head Coach Derek Schooley, and feature Bandits alumni Nick Prkusic and Randy Hernandez.
He’s the 15th Bandit on the 2020-21 roster committed to an NCAA Division I school, joining:
