CAMROSE, AB (November 15, 2020) – Chris Pappas scored the game winner, capping off a 4 point night, helping the Brooks Bandits (2-0) secure a 7-5 win Sunday afternoon at Encana Arena in Camrose over the Kodiaks (0-2).
Goaltender Ethan Barwick (St. Albert, AB) made 29 save for the win.
Bandits defenceman Corson Ceulemans (Beaumont, AB) got the game’s first goal nearly 7 minutes into the game after he wristed a low shot from the left circle to beat Kodiaks starter Griffin Bowerman. But Camrose would tie thanks to a Carson Whyte shorthanded breakaway goal 2 minutes later. However, the Bandits reclaimed a 2-1 lead thanks to goal from forward Owen Cole (Dunnville, ON), who knocked in a rebound off a Thomas Cusson tip midway through the 1st. Brooks outshot Camrose 18-9 in the frame.
Camrose tied the game just 44 seconds into the 2nd period, as forward Ryan Sullivan scored top shelf on a wrist shot. However, the Bandits would take a 4-2 lead thanks to consecutive goals from Ethan Lund and Sean Chisholm. First, Lund (Calgary, AB) blasted a slap shot from the faceoff circle 9 minutes into the period, and then 8 minutes later, Chisholm (Halifax, NS) finished off a 3 on 1 rush, shorthanded to make it 4-2 Bandits. The period wasn’t done yet, as the Kodiaks Callum Gau redirected a shot past Barwick with 2 minutes left in the frame, and then Lynden Grandberg scored shorthanded on a breakaway with 35 seconds left to make it 4-4.
The Bandits retook the lead with 8 minutes to go in the 3rd Period, as forward TJ Hughes (Hamilton, ON) scored from the net front, backhanding a bardown attempt to make it 5-4. Then, forward Chris Pappas (Etobicoke, ON) stick handled his way to the net, sliding the puck under Bowerman with 4 minutes to play to make it 6-4 Bandits.
With the Kodiaks net empty, Camrose got one back thanks to a Dallon Melin goal, but that would as close as it got. Bandits forward Devin Phillips (Raleigh, North Carolina) scored on an empty net to make it 7-5, the final. Shots were 47-35 Bandits.
The Bandits next game is Fri, November 20th when they host the Calgary Canucks at the Centennial Regional Arena. Game time is 7:00 PM, with tickets going on sale on Wed, November 18th at Noon (MST). Only 100 will be made available due to government restrictions.
