Bandits in 1st Place after blasting Saints for largest win of season

BROOKS, AB (October 14, 2022) – The Brooks Bandits had the biggest margin of victory this season, scoring the most goals in a single game, routing the Spruce Grove Saints 8-3 on Friday at the Centennial Regional Arena.

The Bandits (10-1-1) have won 7 straight games, and now sit in 1st Place in the Alberta Junior Hockey League with 21 points.

Dominick Campione opened the scoring at 6:34, after an offensive zone faceoff win, scoring on a point shot from the left point to make it 1-0 Brooks. The Bandits doubled their lead to 2-0 at 17:41 on the powerplay as Hunter Wallace (RPI) tapped in a net-front pass from Dario Beljo (AIC). Shots in the 1st were 12-9 Brooks.

The Saints cut into the Bandits lead at 3:17 as Breck McKinley scored on a point shot to make it 2-1. Brooks would return the favour at 11:43, as Wallace scored his second of the game, finishing off a backdoor pass from Aiden Fink to make it 3-1. Brendan Poshak (Northern Michigan) scored on a breakaway on a stretch pass from Campione at 17:07 to increase the Bandits lead to 4-1. Spruce Grove got one back at 17:23, as Ethan Kronewitt tipped a McKinley shot to make it 4-2. Shots were 17-15 Bandits.

Brooks regained the three-goal lead, as forward Hudson Malinoski (Providence) finished off a Sam Court (New Hampshire) pass to make it 5-2 at 2:48. The Saints got one back from Alexander Babich at 7:25 to cut the lead to 5-3, but it was all Bandits after that. Court scored from the right circle at 8:58 to make it 6-3, followed by a Caelan Fitzpatrick (Niagara) empty net goal at 18:13 for a 7-3 Brooks advantage. Poshak put the icing on the cake at 19:59, wiring a forehand snipe top shelf to make it 8-3, the final. Shots in the 3rd were 16-5 Brooks, and 25-22 overall.

The Bandits homestand continues on Saturday, October 15th, when they host the Whitecourt Wolverines at 7:00 pm.
