SHERWOOD PARK, AB (October 21, 2022) – Despite outshooting the Sherwood Park Crusaders 48-19, the Brooks Bandits nine-game winning streak was snapped following a 2-1 shootout loss at the Randy Rosen Rink on Friday.
Dario Beljo scored the lone Bandits goal, while Ethan Barwick made 17 saves as the Bandits (12-1-2) will look to get back in the win column on Saturday in Lloydminster.
Sherwood Park opened the scoring at 3:49, as Brock Souch tapped in a loose puck. But Brooks responded less than a minute later, as Beljo (AIC) had a big rebound off a Dominick Campione point shot come to him in the right circle, and he blasted it into the net to tie the game 1-1. Shots in the 1st were 16-9 Brooks.
The Bandits outshot the Crusaders 8-5 in the 2nd and 21-2 in the 3rd, but were unable to solve Crusaders starter Erick Roest. The game went to overtime, as Barwick (Lindenwood) made a huge stop on a Za Maxwell breakaway, but despite outshooting the Crusaders 3-2, the game needed a shootout.
Aiden Fink and Hudson Malinoski each shot for Brooks, but were held off the scoresheet. Sherwood Park had goals from Seamus Campbell and Ethan Johnson, pulling off the 2-1 upset.
The Bandits face the Bobcats in Lloydminster on Saturday, October 22. Game time is 7:00 pm, follow on Real Country 105.7 FM and HockeyTV.
