Bandits open Sweden trip with 5-2 win over BIK Karlskoga in Exhibition

KARLSKOGA, SWEDEN (August 13, 2023) – Caelan Fitzpatrick and Dakota MacIntosh each scored twice, while Hughie Hooker added a 3rd period insurance marker, as the Brooks Bandits opened their Sweden trip with a 5-2 victory over BIK Karlskoga U20 in Exhibition play at Nobelhallen Arena on Sunday.

Fitzpatrick (Moose Jaw, SK) opened the scoring at 6:00 of the 1st period on the penalty kill, as he stripped a Karlskoga point-man of the puck and beat the goaltender on a forehand shot to make it 1-0 Brooks. He doubled the lead at 14:00, tapping in a Nathan Free (Calgary, AB) pass on the powerplay to make it 2-0.

Dakota MacIntosh (Winnipeg, MB) made it 3-0 in the first half of the 2nd period, tapping in a Nic DeGraves (Edmonton, AB) pass on the powerplay. But Karlskoga would scored back-to-back goals at 10:41 and 9:45, narrowing the Bandits lead to 3-2 heading to the 3rd.

Hooker (Brandon, MB) sniped a right circle shot at 8:33 to double the lead to 4-2. The Bandits hardly let Karlskoga touch the puck in the 3rd, and with 90 seconds remaining, MacIntosh finished off the game with an empty net goal to seal the 5-2 win.

The U20 Super Challenge runs from August 15-20, hosted by Farjestad BK at Lofbergs Arena. It features eight teams in two Groups, with team’s travelling from around Europe to participate.
