OLDS, AB (November 18, 2022) – Aiden Fink tallied two goals, the Brooks Bandits scored four goals in the 3rd period, skating to a 7-2 win over the Olds Grizzlys on Friday at the Sportsplex.
Goaltender Ethan Barwick (Lindenwood) made 21 saves, while Brooks saw six different players score, Fink (twice), Tyler Blocha, Hughie Hooker, Jordan Hughesman, Brendan Poshak and Aiden Celebrini. Brooks has won 12 straight games and 8 straight on the road. Brooks hasn’t lost in regulation in 22 consecutive games.
Fink (Wisconsin) opened the scoring at 10:04 of the 1st period, after a faceoff win by Hudson Malinoski (Providence), Fink carried the puck to the slot and score on a forehand shot to make it 1-0. The Grizzlys tied it up at 12:11, as Tanner Klimpke got a rebound and scored. Brooks reclaimed the lead at 14:04, as Fink scored off the rush from the right circle to increase the Bandits lead to 2-1. With 2:03 left in the period, defenceman Celebrini (Boston University) made a stretch pass to Blocha (Northern Michigan), who beat Olds goaltender Marcus Cumberworth top corner for a 3-1 Brooks advantage.
The 2nd period was scoreless.
Olds cut the lead to 3-2 at 5:27 of the 3rd period as Klimpke knocked in a rebound off an odd-man rush. But it was all Brooks after that, as defenceman Hooker scored from the left circle with a highlight reel deke around a defender at 7:11 to double the Bandits lead to 4-2. Forward Jordan Hughes (Merrimack) tapped in Fink left circle pass at 10:25 to make it 5-2 Brooks, followed by a Poshak (Northern Michigan) goal off the rush on the right wing, increasing the lead to 6-2. Celebrini scored on a forehand shot at 16:20 to seal the deal, making it a 7-2 final. Shots were 40-23 Brooks.
The Bandits host the Blackfalds Bulldogs on Saturday, November 19th for Teacher’s Night, which features $7 tickets for all teachers. Game time is 7:00 pm at the Centennial Regional Arena.
