Bandits season comes to a close with 6-1 home win over Spruce Grove

BROOKS, AB (May 9, 2021) – The 2020-21 Brooks Bandits season ended with a win on home ice, as the Bandits had six different goal scorers in a 6-1 victory over the Spruce Grove Saints on Sunday at the Centennial Regional Arena.

Bandits goaltender Jared Whale made 15 saves in the win, as the Bandits finished the year with an 18-2 regular season record, and 26-4 total record including the developmental season 8-2 record.

Highlights presented by Days Inn & Suites:

Chris Pappas (St. Lawrence), playing in his final game as a Bandit, fired in a backhander just 42 seconds into the game to make it 1-0. Shots were 19-6 for the Bandits in the 1st.

Pappas made a behind-the-net pass to forward Ryan McAllister (Western Michigan) and scored 1:38 into the 2nd to make it 2-0. Pappas then setup forward Brayden Krieger (Bowling Green) in the left circle on the powerplay, who tapped in the puck to make it 3-0 at 9:45. The Bandits went up 4-0 after defenceman Brendan Kenentte fired in a left point shot into the top right corner at 16:02. That was followed by defenceman Zach Bookman (Merrimack) weaving around Saints goaltender Tyler Palmer to make it 5-0 at 17:05. Shots were 18-3 Brooks.

Spruce Grove got one back at 8:23 into the 3rd period, as captain Graham Gamache knocked in a puck on the net front to cut the lead to 5-1. But the Bandits got it back as captain Taylor Makar (UMass) rushed up the left wing and buried the final goal of the season to make it 6-1. Final shots were 53-16 Bandits.
