BROOKS, AB (November 2, 2022) – The Brooks Bandits set a season high in goals scored in a single game, as Sam Court scored a hat trick in a 10-3 blowout of the Camrose Kodiaks on Wednesday at the Centennial Regional Arena.
Court had a five-point game, while goaltender Ethan Barwick (Lindenwood) made 26 saves for his AJHL-leading 16th win, as the Bandits (17-1-2) have won five straight games, and remain unbeaten in regulation in 15 consecutive games.
AJHL Player of the Month (October) Aiden Fink (Wisconsin) opened the scoring at 10:46, backhanding a net front chance over the pad of Kodiaks starter Robert Andeakos to make it 1-0. Camrose had a goal waved off later in the 1st, as Ty Hodge was deemed to have kicked-in a puck into the Bandits net.
The Kodiaks tied the game 1-1 at 3:28 of the 2nd period, as Myles Gauld scored on a scramble play. But Brooks retook the lead at 4:30, as Court (New Hampshire) got his own rebound off a dump-in and scored to make it 2-1. The Bandits went off after that, as forward Tyler Blocha (Northern Michigan), tapping in a Danylo Korzhyletskyi right circle pass to make it 3-1 at 7:21. Then at 9:59, forward Hunter Wallace (RPI) fired in a wrist shot from the right circle on the powerplay on a cross-ice pass from Fink to make it 4-1. Bandits forward Nathan Free (Penn State) drove to the net from the half-wall, going top-shelf, short side, to make it 5-1 at 12:55. Court’s second came at 13:46 on the powerplay, driving a one-timer from the point on a pass from Wallace to increase the lead to 6-1. Camrose got one back from Owen Lansing at 17:23, scoring backhand to cut the lead to 6-2.
Camrose got another one back at 4:35 as Noah Alvarez scored on a backhander to make it a 6-3 game. But it was all Brooks after that, as forward Heath Armstrong tapped in an Ethan Beyer (Arizona State) wraparound attempt to make it 7-3 Bandits. At 7:34, Fink finished off a two-on-one pass from Hudson Malinoski (Providence) to make it 8-3 Brooks. Captain Dario Beljo (AIC) tipped in a Sam Court shot from the high slot to make it 9-3 on the powerplay, and then at 13:06 Court scored from the corner to make it 10-3, the final.
