BROOKS, AB (March 15, 2021) – The Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) are excited to announce the signing of 2003-born defenceman Boston Buckberger.
The 5’11, 175lb product of Saskatoon, SK previously played for his hometown Blazers U18 AAA, where he suited up in 4 games during the 2020-21 season, registering 6 points (3G, 3A) before the league was shut down due to COVID-19.
This past January he committed to the University of Wisconsin (NCAA Division I, Big TEN Conference).
“I’m extremely excited to sign with Brooks,” he said.
“After the disappointing season this year, it will be awesome to get out to Brooks and get the new season underway. I can’t wait to be a Bandit.”
During the 2019-20 campaign, Buckberger put up 40 points (14G, 26A) in 43 games for the Blazers.
“We are truly excited to work with Boston leading up to his NCAA career with Wisconsin,” said Bandits Head Coach and GM, Ryan Papaioannou.
“He was a target recruit for a number of teams and we are fortunate that him and his family have chose our program as the place to develop his game. He’s a two-way defenceman that has an ability to create offence. We feel our style of play suits him well and he will follow in the footsteps of many elite offensive defenceman here in Brooks.”
The Brooks Bandits are 4-0 on the regular season, and recently restarted their season on Mar 12th after a 4 month pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Their next game is Saturday, March 20th when they host the Okotoks Oilers at the CRA at 7:00 PM.
