Bandits sign ’99 born defenceman Jake Kustra

BROOKS, AB (February 8, 2020) – The Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League have announced they’ve signed 1999-born defenceman Jake Kustra.

The 6’0 183lb blueliner played 195 regular season games in the Western Hockey League (WHL), where he accumulated 6 goals, 27 assists and 285 penalty minutes.

Of those 195 regular season games, 169 were spent with the Saskatoon Blades, 20 with the Victoria Royals, and 6 with the Swift Current Broncos. He appeared in 6 playoff games with the Royals in 2018/19, recording 1 assist and 13 penalty minutes.

?We are excited to have Jake joining our team for the last month of the regular season and heading into the playoffs,” said Bandits head coach and general manager, Ryan Papaioannou.

“At this point we are in need of experience, leadership and defensive strength and Jake fills all those needs. He’s a veteran of more than 200 games of junior hockey and will bring a physical presence to our group.?

Prior to his WHL career, Kustra played with the Notre Dame Argos of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League (SMAAAHL). The native of Yorkton, Saskatchewan was drafted 34th overall by the Blades in the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft.

The Bandits host the Whitecourt Wolverines on Saturday night (Feb. 8) at the Centennial Regional Arena. Visit tickets.brooksbandits.ca for more information.
