BROOKS, AB (July 15, 2016) – The Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) are excited to announce the signing of 2000-born forward Louis Jamernik (Calgary, AB).
Jamernik, 16, joins the Bandits after a stellar season in the Alberta Minor Midget Hockey League (AMMHL), in which he was the league’s fourth-highest scorer with 70 points (26 goals, 44 assists) in 36 regular season games, with an additional 6 points (2 goals, 4 assists) in 3 playoff games for the Calgary Royals Athletic Association (CRAA) Gold team.
While captaining and leading that team in scoring, the 5’11”, 195lb forward also added 3 points (2 goals, 1 assist) in 7 games as a callup with the Calgary Royals of the Alberta Midget Hockey League (AMHL).
“Louis was a highly sought after player in both the AJHL and WHL, and we are excited to have him and his family commit to our program and the NCAA route,” said Bandits head coach and general manager Ryan Papaioannou. “He is coming off of a great season as one of the top scoring players in the AMMHL, and comes to us with a good frame for a young player, competing hard on both sides of the puck.
“Louis also fits a growing trend of this recruiting class as a leader, having captained his Calgary Royals team this past season,” he added.
Previously, Jamernik suited up for the Calgary Royals of the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League (AMBHL) in 2014-15, leading that team in scoring as well with 45 points (16 goals, 29 assists) in 32 games.
“I wanted to play for the Bandits because they are winners, they have outstanding coaches, and their dedication towards getting their players to the next level both on the ice and in school is the best in the league by far,” said Jamernik. “I chose to pursue the NCAA route because I feel it will give me the extra years needed to develop my game and build my confidence as a player as well as get a great education.”
The Bandits led all Canadian teams last season with 16 players committed to National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I institutions.
Jamernik is the tenth player committed to the Bandits for 2016-17, joining 1998-born defenceman David D’Agostino (Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON), 1997-born forward Tyler Nyman (Centerville, MN) of Centennial High School, 1998-born defenceman Dennis Cesana (North Providence, RI) of Kimball Union Academy, 1998-born defenceman Devon Daniels (Thunder Bay, ON) of Gilmour Academy, 1997-born forward Nicholas Hamre (Cumberland, ON) of Kimball Union Academy, 1997-born forward Tyler Carangelo (Hamden, CT) of Avon Old Farms, 1998-born forward Arnaud Vachon (Ajax, ON) of The Hill Academy, 1997-born defenceman Josh Gagne (Caledon, ON) of The Gunnery, and 1997-born forward Oliver Chau (Oakville, ON) of Northfield Mount Hermon.
