Bandits suffer first road loss of the season despite outshooting Bulldogs

BLACKFALDS, AB (September 24, 2022) – For the first time in their team’s history, the Blackfalds Bulldogs have defeated the Brooks Bandits following a 6-3 setback at the Eagle Builder’s Centre on Saturday.

It’s the Bandits (3-1-1) first regulation loss of the season, despite outshooting the Bulldogs 38-29.

Blackfalds forward Tyler Wallace opened the scoring on the powerplay, as he one-timed a shot from the bottom of the right circle at 5:32. Then at 13:03, Jordan Edwards cleaned up a scramble to make it 2-0 Bulldogs. Brooks would respond on the powerplay, as forward Heath Armstrong finished off a cross net pass from Caelan Fitzpatrick (Niagara) to cut the Blackfalds lead to 2-1 at 17:42. Brooks outshot the Bulldogs 15-4 in the 1st.

The Bandits came back to tie the game 2-2, who waited out Bulldogs starter Charlie Zolin and tucked in a shortside goal at 5:55. But Blackfalds score three unanswered goals at 8:30 from Brendan Ross, 9:34 from Connor Dick and 10:51 from Jack Plandowski to increase their lead to 5-2. Shots in the 2nd were 15-12 Bulldogs.

Bandits forward Dario Beljo (AIC) blasted a one-timer at 4:30 of the 3rd to cut the lead to 5-3, however, the Bulldogs got it back at 6:12 on a Tyler Wallace cleanup goal after Bandits starter Ethan Barwick (Lindenwood) made a terrific save on a one-timer. Shots in the 3rd were 11-10 Brooks.

Brooks’ next home game is Tuesday, September 27, when they host the Camrose Kodiaks for JBS Canada Night, game time is 6:30 pm.
