DRUMHELLER, AB (September 5, 2021) – Despite scoring a game-tying goal with 58 seconds left in regulation, the Brooks Bandits fell 7-6 in overtime to the Drumheller Dragons in preseason action Sunday at the Memorial Arena.

It was a see-saw game that saw seven different lead changes with a Kiano Robinson goal 1:43 into the extra period to end the contest, putting the Bandits 2021 Preseason record at 1-0-1.

Highlights presented by Days Inn & Suites:

Drumheller opened the scoring 1:47 into the 1st, as forward Ty Daneault capitalized on a Bandits turnover in their own end to make 1-0. The Bandits tied it up less than three minutes later, as forward Hunter Wallace (Wisconsin) got an end-board rebound off an Ethan Lund (Niagara) shot. However, Dragons forward Greyson Dietrich gave Drumheller a 2-1 lead after scoring on a forehand shot from the right circle 18 seconds later.

The frantic 1st continued as Brooks scored back-to-back goals. Forward Ryan McAllister (Western Michigan) scored on his own rebound at 5:45, followed by an Anthony Cipollone powerplay goal set up by a spinning Jack Seymour (Holy Cross) pass at 10:15 on the powerplay to make it 3-2 Bandits. Shots in the 1st were 12-12.

The Dragons scored back-to-back to open the 2nd period, as Myles Hilman knocked a pass out of the air 4:28 to tie the game 3-3, followed by a Hayden Prosofsky wraparound goal two minutes later to make it 4-3.

The Bandits tied it up at 11:31 as forward Devin Phillips (Holy Cross) found a loose sitting in the crease and tapped it in to make it 4-4. Phillips scored again at 15:25 on the powerplay as he scored from the goal line to make it 5-4. However, Drumheller tied the game at 17:12 on the powerplay, as Danuealt scored off an offensive zone faceoff win, followed by a Prosofsky top shelf shot at 17:45 to make it 6-5 Dragons. The Bandits switched goaltenders following the goal, as Ethan Barwick made 20 saves before Jared Whale came in as relief for the rest of the game. Brooks outshot Drumheller 16-14 in the frame.

The 3rd period was mostly scoreless. Bandits defenceman Ethan O’Halloran wristed a point shot that went off the post, but it wouldn’t be until the final minute when defenceman Zach Bookman (Merrimack) cleaned up a loose puck to tie the game. Shots were 16-10 Brooks in the frame.

Overtime saw Dragons goaltender Garret Fuller not surrender anything more to Brooks, and Robinson ended it with forehand shot 1:43 into the extra period. Final shots were 44-44 Bandits.
