PORTAGE LA PRAIRIE, MB (May 11, 2023) – The Brooks Bandits quest for a third straight, and fourth overall, National Championship begins today as the 2023 Centennial Cup opens at Stride Place.
The Bandits face the Maritime Hockey League (MHL) Champion Yarmouth Mariners at 3:30 pm (Central).
The game will be broadcast live on Real Country 105.7 FM and realcountrybrooks.ca, and streamed live.
Bandits forward Hunter Wallace:
“I think the biggest thing for us is to not take anyone lightly, everyone’s a Champion here. We just need to go out and do what we do, and we’ll be successful.”
Bandits defenceman Hughie Hooker:
“We don’t know a lot about them, they don’t know a lot about us, but I think if we go out there and play our game, move quickly, play our game, we’ll be fine.”
Brooks won the 2023 AJHL Championship after defeating the Spruce Grove Saints in five games, and competing in their sixth National Championship (2013, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2022). The Mariners are competing in their first National Championship after sweeping the Edmundston Blizzard in the MHL Final.
The Bandits haven’t faced an MHL team since the 2013 RBC Cup Final when they defeated the Summerside Western Capitals to claim their first National Championship.
