Bandits to face North Stars in National Championship showdown on Sunday

PORTAGE LA PRAIRIE, MB (May 20, 2023) – The Brooks Bandits will face the SJHL-Champion Battlefords North Stars in the 2023 Centennial Cup National Championship Game on Sunday at Stride Place.

Sunday’s Championship game goes at 3:00 pm (CST) on TSN and Real Country 105.7 FM.

Brooks blanked Ottawa 3-0 on Semifinal Saturday, while the North Stars defeated the host Portage Terriers 7-1 in the other semi.

Brooks have won all five of their games at the 2023 Centennial Cup, outscoring their opposition 30-4. Battlefords is 4-1, beating Kam River 4-1, Portage 3-2, Steinbach 3-1 and Portage again in the Semifinal. Their one loss came to the Collingwood Blues, 3-1 in the Preliminary Round.

The Bandits finished 1st in the CJHL Top 20 Rankings, while the North Stars finished 2nd.

The Bandits have now qualified for the National Championship game five times; 2013, 2017, 2019, 2022 and 2023.

The Bandits and North Stars last met at the 2017 Western Canada Cup in Penticton, BC. Brooks won that game 4-1, and went on to win the tournament.

Sunday’s Championship game will be live on TSN, and there will be a radio broadcast on Real Country 105.7 FM and with Nathan Crosby and Ken Fleury.
