Bandits to take on West Kelowna in late RBC semi-final

LLOYDMINSTER, SK (May 19, 2016) – The Brooks Bandits will take on the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) champion West Kelowna Warriors in the 7:30 PM semi-final at the 2016 RBC Cup on Saturday, May 21st, it was announced by Hockey Canada tonight.

The Bandits will be the nominal home team in the game and thus control the last line change, by virtue of having finished second in the tournament round robin with a 3-1 record, one point ahead of the Warriors, whose 3-1 record included one shootout win.

The Trenton Golden Hawks defeated the host Lloydminster Bobcats 4-1 earlier tonight and thus clinched first in the round robin standings at 3-0-1, setting up their semi-final matchup with the fourth-place Bobcats. As the top team, Trenton was able to choose which semi-final time slot it preferred, and selected the 2:30 PM option.

It will be the fourth meeting between the Bandits and Warriors in the 2016 post-season. Brooks won its Western Canada Cup opener 4-2 over West Kelowna, before the Warriors responded with a 6-0 win in the tournament championship game. At the RBC Cup, Brooks defeated West Kelowna 5-1 in the round robin stage.

The game will be broadcast on the Bandits’ official radio station, Q105.7, with pre-game coverage beginning at 7:00 PM.

The winners of the two semi-finals will play in the 2016 RBC Cup final on Sunday at 4:00 PM.
