Bandits win 6th straight, down Canucks 8-1 on Saturday at CRA

BROOKS, AB (March 27, 2021) – The Brooks Bandits (6-0) scored 7 unanswered goals in a 8-1 route of the Calgary Canucks on Saturday night at the Centennial Regional Arena.

Tied 1-1 at the start of the 2nd period, the Bandits pulled away with 3 goals in the 2nd, and 4 goals in the 3rd for their 6th straight win. Goaltender Jared Whale made 23 saves in the win.  

The Bandits got on the board first, as forward Dario Beljo one-timed an Anthony Cipollone pass for his first AJHL goal to make it 1-0 Brooks 2:13 into the game. But the Canucks would tie the game as forward Dylan Clark sheld a shot from the slot at the 12:47 mark. Calgary outshot Brooks 13-9 in the 1st.

Brooks came out firing in the 2nd, as forward Devin Phillips knocked in a loose puck in the crease just 16 seconds into the frame to make it 2-1 Brooks. Then at the 3:40 mark, forward Brendan Mairs one-timed a Taylor Makar pass to give the Bandits a 3-1 edge, followed by a Brayden Krieger breakaway goal at 13:57 where he slid the puck five-hole on a backhand shot to make it 4-1. Shots were 17-5 Bandits.

The home side kept pouring it on in the 3rd, as TJ Hughes finished off a pass from Phillips at 4:30 to make it 5-1, followed by a Tim Rego goal at 14:23 scored from the net front off a Makar pass to make it 6-1. Brooks finished the game off with a Sean Chisholm goal from the right circle at 15:00, and a powerplay goal from Phillips from the bottom of the right circle to finish the game 8-1. Final shots were 43-24 Bandits.
