Bandits win back to back on the road as Barwick makes 22 saves in 7-0 shutout of Canucks

CALGARY, AB (September 25, 2021) – For the second time this season, the Brooks Bandits shutout an opponent thanks to a 7-0 blanking of the Calgary Canucks at Henry Viney Arena on Saturday night.

Goaltender Ethan Barwick made 22 saves, while forward Ryan McAllister (Western Michigan) scored a pair of goals for the Bandits second straight road win.

Brooks opened the scoring 3:22 into the game as McAllister capitalized on a Canucks turnover in their own end and fired in a left top shelf shot to make it 1-0 Brooks. Then at 12:44 and on a delayed penalty call against the Canucks, defenceman Dominick Campione (Arizona State) sniped a top shelf shot from the right circle to increase the lead to 2-0. With 52 seconds left in the period, the Bandits completed an end-to-end rush, with Anthony Cipollone redirecting an Aiden Fink (Wisconsin) pass to make it 3-0. Shots in the 1st were 13-5 Bandits.

Brooks increased the lead to 4-0 as McAllister slid a puck underneath Canucks starter Sam Philpott 4:35 into the 2nd period. That was followed by a Fink goal at 6:23, as he scored from the bottom of the right circle. Shots in the 2nd period were 14-10 Bandits.

The 3rd period saw forward Liam Hughes score his first of the season as he fired in a shot from the left circle to make it 6-0 at 12:08. With under four minutes to go, defenceman Zach Bookman (Merrimack) setup a one-timer for forward Hunter Wallace (RPI), who scored his first AJHL goal. Shots in the 3rd were 16-7 Brooks, and 43-22 overall.

The Brooks Bandits host the 2021 AJHL Showcase from Thursday, Sep 30 through Sunday, Oct 3 at the Centennial Regional Arena. Brooks will face the Spruce Grove Saints on Friday, Oct 1 at 7:30 pm and then take on the Sherwood Park Crusaders on Saturday, Oct 2, also at 7:30 pm.
