Bandits winning streak snapped following 3-1 setback in Bonnyville

BONNYVILLE, AB (October 18, 2023) – Despite a goal from Hunter Wallace 31 seconds into the game, the Brooks Bandits suffered their second loss of the season after dropping a 3-1 decision to the Pontiacs on Wednesday at the RJ Lalonde Arena.

The Pontiacs scored three unanswered goals despite being outshot 27-16 by Brooks. The Bandits (11-2) win streak snapped at nine games, their first loss since September 19th.

Wallace (Oak Lake, MB) scored on a Nic DeGraves (Edmonton, AB) rebound 31 seconds into the contest, which was the 12th time the Bandits opened the scoring this season in 13 games. It was Wallace’s team-leading ninth marker of the season. However, Pontiacs goaltender Bodee Weiss wouldn’t surrender another. Brooks goaltender Johnny Hicks (Kamloops, BC) made 13 saves in the game.

Bonnyville tied the game at 6:59 of the 2nd period, as defenceman JR Ashmead scored top shelf. A few minutes later at 9:16, Pontiacs forward Nicolas Beaudoin finished off a forehand shot to give them the 2-1 lead.

The score held for much of the 3rd period, until the 18:39 mark. Forward Luka Sukovic capitalized on a pass from behind the Brooks net and scored to make it 3-1.

The Bandits host the Drumheller Dragons twice this coming weekend on Friday, October 20th and Saturday, October 21st, both starting at 7:00 pm.
