BROOKS, AB (September 23, 2022) – Vincent Scott scored the overtime winner as the Brooks Bandits season-opening winning streak was snapped with a 4-3 setback to the Canmore Eagles in extra time on Friday at the Centennial Regional Arena.
Bandits goaltender Wilson Maxfield made 26 saves in his first regular season start, as the Bandits record is now 3-0-1.
The Eagles scored 15 seconds into the game, as forward Kayden Smith scored on a breakaway to make it 1-0 Canmore. But the Bandits tied up the game 1-1 at 9:15, as forward Heath Armstrong finished off net-front passing play from Dominick Campione (Arizona State) and Danylo Korzhyletskyi. The Bandits took their first lead at 13:25 as forward Nathan Free (Penn State) sniped a top right corner shot to make it 2-1 Brooks. Shots in the 1st were 15-10 Bandits.
Just one goal in the 2nd period, forward Hudson Malinoski (Providence) scored on the powerplay from the left circle to make it 3-1 Bandits at 7:07. Shots in the 2nd were 16-11 Brooks, with the Bandits killing off three penalties in the period.
The Eagles came back in the 3rd period, as forward Kyle Young (9:45) scored off the rush to make it 3-2, followed by another Kayden Smith goal at 10:53 to tie the game. Shots in the 3rd were 14-7 Brooks and 45-30 overall.
In overtime, Scott ended the game with 52 seconds left on a forehand shot after Bandits defenceman Dominick Campione (Arizona State) took a whack of a stick at the other end by Scott on a partial breakaway that was denied.
The Bandits next game is Saturday, September 24, when they visit the Blackfalds Bulldogs. Game time is 6:00 pm, listen to the broadcast on Real Country 105.7 FM.
Brooks’ next home game is Tuesday, September 27, when they host the Camrose Kodiaks for JBS Canada Night, which starts at 6:30 pm.
