Barwick makes 22 saves as Bandits knock off Oil barons 5-1 for back to back wins

BROOKS, AB (January 25, 2023) – The Brooks Bandits had five different goal scorers, as Ethan Barwick made 22 saves in a 5-1 win over the Fort McMurray Oil Barons on Wednesday at the Centennial Regional Arena.

Dario Beljo, Dominick Campione, Elliot Dutil, Nathan Free and Danylo Korzhyletskyi all scored for Brooks, who never gave up the lead after getting an early powerplay goal in the 1st. The Bandits (41-4-2) have won back-to-back games by a 5-1 margin.

Beljo (Sudbury, ON) opened the scoring at 2:49, one-timing a Fink (Calgary, AB) pass on the powerplay to make it 1-0 Brooks. The Bandits doubled the lead to 2-0 at 13:54 as defenceman Campione (Kolher, WI) redirected a shot that bounced over the head of Oil Barons starter Gabe Gratton and landed in the back of the net.

The Oil Barons got on the board at 2:26 of the 2nd period, as Olivier Lamothe tipped a Jesse Burchart shot to cut the Bandits lead to 2-1. But Brooks reclaimed the two-goal lead at 9:32, as Dutil (Montreal, QC) redirected a Korzhyletskyi (Kyiv, UK) pass to make it 3-1 Brooks. Forward Nathan Free (Calgary, AB) had a goal waved off after cleaning up a Brendan Poshak try, but it was deemed goaltender interference.

Free wouldn’t be denied in the 3rd period at 2:56 on the powerplay, one-timing a Brendan Poshak (Green Bay, WI) pass to make it 4-1. With 62 seconds left, Korzhyletskyi went top shelf on a Ethan Beyer (Centennial, CO) goal line pass to make it 5-1, the final. Shots were 42-23 Bandits.The Bandits head on the road on Saturday, January 28, with a visit to Camrose to face the Kodiaks. Game time is 7:00 pm.
