Beljo scores twice, Barwick turns aside 23 shots in Remembrance Day win in Camrose

CAMROSE, AB (November 11, 2022) – Dario Beljo scored twice as the Brooks Bandits used a big 2nd period to build a four-goal lead, beating the Camrose Kodiaks 5-1 on Friday at Encana Arena.

Goaltender Ethan Barwick (Lindenwood) made 23 saves for the Bandits 8th straight win, and 6th straight victory on the road. Brooks (20-1-2) remains unbeaten in regulation in 18 straight contests.

After a scoreless opening period where shots were even 9-9, the Bandits began the 2nd period shorthanded. Forward Heath Armstrong forced a turnover at centre ice, and passed to Brendan Poshak (Northern Michigan), who sniped a wrist shot into Robert Andreakos’ net to make it 1-0 Brooks just 26 seconds into the period.

The Bandits went on the powerplay, and Captain Dario Beljo (AIC) doubled the lead to 2-0 at 3:50, shooting a forehand attempt from the high slot. Brooks tripled the lead to 3-0 at 7:14, and once again, Beljo scored, this time taking a pass from Aiden Fink (Wisconsin) from the wall and beating Andreakos 1-on-0. The goal forced Camrose to use their timeout. Defenceman Ethan Beyer (Arizona State) scored from the half-wall at 14:04 to make it 4-0 Bandits. The Kodiaks spoiled Barwick’s shutout bid at 15:20, as Myles Gauld tapped in a backdoor pass to cut the lead to 4-1.

Brooks forward Elliot Dutil (Lindenwood) backhanded a Beljo pass at 12:47 of the 3rd period to increase the Bandits lead to 5-1. Both Dutil and Beljo had three-point games, as the Bandits outshot Camrose 29-24 for the win.

The Bandits return home on Saturday, November 12, when they host the Canmore Eagles. Game time is 7:00 pm at the Centennial Regional Arena.
