Beljo scores twice, including overtime goal, as Bandits edge Eagles to extend winning streak to 17 games

BROOKS, AB (December 2, 2022) – Dario Beljo scored twice, including the overtime winner, as the Brooks Bandits survived a Canmore Eagles comeback with a 4-3 victory in extra time, extending the winning streak to 17 games.

Brooks (29-1-2) have won 14 straight at home, and remain unbeaten in regulation in 27 straight contests. Ethan Barwick (St. Albert, AB) made 24 saves in the win.

The 1st period was scoreless, with Brooks coming close but denied by multiple glove saves by Eagles starter Andreai Proctor-Ramirez.

Beljo (Sudbury, ON) tipped in a Sam Court (Winnipeg, MB) corner pass on the powerplay to make it 1-0 Brooks. The Bandits doubled the lead to 2-0 at 7:38, as Danylo Korzhyletskyi (Kyiv, UK) tapped in an Elliot Dutil (Montreal,QC) left circle pass.

Canmore cut into the lead at 1:17 of the 3rd period, as Casey Black scored from the right point. Brooks would see Aiden Fink (Calgary, AB) tap-in the puck from the left side of the net on the powerplay at 11:24 to give Brooks a 3-1 lead. But the Eagles would not go away, getting a goal from Finn McLaughlin from the right circle to make it 3-2 at 15:11, followed by a Brody Tallman right circle to tie the game 3-3 with 1:31 left in the game.

In overtime, Proctor-Ramirez denied Beljo on a two-on-none chance, knocking away the net front pass away with the paddle. In the other end, Ethan Barwick (St. Albert, AB) made a toe save on an Eagles chance, and the Bandits would have last say, as Beljo won the game with 3:06 left in overtime. Final shots 37-27 Brooks, with the Bandits going 2/4 on the powerplay.

The Bandits wrap up their homestand on Saturday, December 3rd, as they host the Olds Grizzlys for Teddy Bear Toss night. All stuffed animals thrown on the ice after the first Bandits goal will be donated to the Scotiabank Smiles for Christmas campaign. Game time is 7:00 pm.
