Bobcats shock Bandits with upset in Lloydminster

Lloydminster, SK (January 17, 2020) – A stunner in the Border City as the Lloydminster Bobcats (7-31-4) hung on for a 4-3 upset over the top ranked Brooks Bandits (38-4-1) on Friday night at the Centennial Civic Centre.

The Bobcats scored three times in the 1st period, and received a hat trick goal from Tanner Mack in the 3rd period to just give them enough to hold off the Bandits in the final seconds.

Mack’s first of the night came 4:35 into the game, as he cleaned up a loose puck to make it 1-0. But the Bandits tied the game at 7:48 thanks to a Ryan McAllister (London, ON) goal, finishing off a Randy Hernandez pass to make it 1-1.

Lloydminster retook the lead at 13:39 as Brendan Morrow redirected a Ty Mosimann pass in the net front, followed by Mack’s second goal at 19:39 on a wrist shot from the right circle to make it 3-1.

The 2nd period saw the Bandits get within one thanks to a highlight reel move by forward Chris Pappas (Toronto, ON), scoring top shelf on Bobcats goaltender Josh Dias at 13:33 to make it 3-2.

Mack’s hat trick came at the 10:13 mark of the 3rd period on a breakaway to make it 4-2 Bobcats. Brooks got a late powerplay and pulled started Pierce Charleson (Aurora, ON) for the extra attacker. They got the deficit to 4-3 with 20 seconds to go thanks to a Trey Thomas (Williams Lake, BC) goal, but that would be as close as they’d get.

Final shots were 26-24 Bandits.

Brooks wraps up the weekend with a visit to Sherwood Park on Saturday, where they’ll face the North Divsion leading Crusaders at 7:00 PM. Live coverage begins at 6:45 PM on Martin Chrysler Bandits Hockey on Real Country 105.7.
