BROOKS, AB (September 28, 2018) – The Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) announced today that 1999-born defenceman Brandon Scanlin (Hamilton, ON) has committed to attend and play for the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
Located in the Cornhusker State’s largest city, the UNO Mavericks play in the NCAA Division I National Collegiate Hockey Conference under second-year head coach Mike Gabinet.
Scanlin, 19, has scored 4 points (2 goals, 2 assists) in 5 games with the Bandits so far this year, in his second season with the team and his first as an alternate captain.
Last season, he was named the team’s Rookie of the Year after scoring 41 points (8 goals, 33 assists) in 58 games, ranking second in the AJHL among rookie defencemen in scoring and sixth overall among league defencemen.
Prior to his Junior A career, Scanlin played two seasons with the Brantford 99ers of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL), being named a 2nd Team All-Star in his final season there after recording 27 points (4 goals, 23 assists) in 50 games.
