Brooks Bandits sign Prairie Hockey Academy forward Ethan DeKay

BROOKS, AB (January 14, 2022) – The Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) are pleased to announce forward Ethan DeKay has signed with the team for the 2022-2023 season.

DeKay, 17, currently plays for the Prairie Hockey Academy U18 Prep Team in Caronport, SK, competing in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL).

“Visiting the city of Brooks and watching the team practice, seeing the character in the dressing room and the attention to detail solidified my decision to be a Brooks Bandits,” said DeKay.

“I’m excited for this next chapter and furthering my goals to play Division I hockey. I’m also looking forward to the development I’ll receive under Head Coach Ryan Papaioannou and the entire coaching staff. I’m very grateful for the opportunity.”

At 5’10, 150lb and hailing from Mississauga, ON, DeKay currently is over a point per game pace with 25 points (12g, 13a) in 21 games. He’s 17th in goal scoring in the CSSHL.

“Ethan is a gifted skater that make the game look effortless. His speed is an asset that we felt would transfer to our style of play quickly and he would be an offensive threat nightly,” said Bandits Head Coach and GM, Ryan Papaioannou.

“Wayne Labrie saw him play in early September and was excited at the potential of recruiting Ethan to our program. During the process of getting to know him it was evident he is ready and willing to put in the necessary work to become a Division 1 player. Our staff is excited to work with Ethan next season.

The Bandits welcome DeKay and his family to Brooks.
