Cale Makar nominated for CJHL Top Defenceman Award

BROOKS, AB (May 3, 2017) – Brooks Bandits defenceman Cale Makar (Calgary, AB) has been nominated for the Canadian Junior Hockey League Top Defenceman Award, it was announced today.

The second-year Bandit blueliner and University of Massachusetts commit is one of six Junior A defencemen from six of the ten CJHL leagues up for the annual award.
Makar, 18, led all AJHL defencemen in scoring with 75 points (24 goals, 51 assists) this regular season, and was also the league’s 6th-highest scorer and ranked 5th in assists among all skaters.

The 5’11”, 179lb defenceman also captained Team Canada West at the annual World Jr. A Challenge, and is currently ranked 9th by NHL Central Scouting among North American skaters eligible for the upcoming NHL Draft

He was named the winner of the AJHL’s Top Defenceman Award this season, following up his wins of the AJHL Rookie of the Year and CJHL Rookie of the Year awards last season.

The winner of the award will be announced leading up to the upcoming RBC Cup national championship tournament in Cobourg, Ontario.
