BROOKS, AB (January 16, 2018) – Brooks Bandits captain and leading scorer Dennis Cesana (Providence, RI) has been named the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced yesterday.
Cesana, 19, recorded 9 points in 3 games in the weekend, with 1 goal and 8 assists, including a career-high five-point night on Friday against the Olds Grizzlys.
The week put him one point ahead of his total from last year, with 53 points (10 goals, 43 assists) in 43 games, ranking third among all players in the AJHL. His 43 assists lead the league by far, with no other player having more than 37 this season.
The Michigan State commit is also only 8 assists away from tying Cale Makar’s team record for assists by a defenceman in a season, with 17 games remaining to achieve it.
It’s the third time Cesana has won a weekly AJHL award this season; he was Defensive Player of the Week in the second week of the regular season, and Player of the Week in late October.
The Bandits are on the road this weekend, taking on the Fort McMurray Oil Barons on Friday and the Bonnyville Pontiacs on Saturday. Their next home game is Friday, January 26th, hosting the Canmore Eagles at 7:00 PM. Tickets are available online at tickets.brooksbandits.ca.
