BROOKS, AB (November 25, 2022) – For the second straight game, Elliot Dutil scored a hat trick, as the Brooks Bandits scored five unanswered goals in a 5-1 victory over the Olds Grizzlys on Friday at the Centennial Regional Arena.
The Bandits winning streak is now at 15 games, while the team has won 12 straight at home. Goaltender Ethan Barwick (St. Albert, AB) made 15 saves, while Brendan Poshak (Green Bay, WI) and Aiden Celebrini (North Vancouver, BC scored the other Bandit goals.
Olds scored the only goal of the 1st period, as defenceman Travis Baker wristed a powerplay shot from the slot to make it 1-0 Grizzlys. Brooks outshot Olds 17-3 in the opening 20 minutes, but didn’t solve Grizzlys started Noah Nelson.
Brooks evened up the game 1-1 with 5:18 left in the 2nd period, as Mikhail Simchuk (Kyiv, UK) made a stretch pass to Dutil (Montreal, QC), who scored top left corner on a breakaway. Shots were 13-5 Brooks in the period.
The Bandits first lead came at 4:21 of the 3rd period, as Poshak scored on a wrist shot that beat Nelson on the bottom left corner to make it 2-1. Celebrini sniped a top corner shot at 6:10 to double the Bandits lead to 3-1. Dutil’s second of the game came at 12:07, as forward Dario Beljo (Sudbury, ON) passed from behind-the-net to Dutil, who scored five-hole to make it 4-1. He completed the hat trick at 19:01, scoring five-hole on the breakaway to make it 5-1. Shots were 42-16 Brooks, total.
The Bandits continue their homestand on Saturday, November 26, hosting the Blackfalds Bulldogs at 7:00 pm.
