BROOKS, AB (October 7, 2022) – Aiden Fink scored twice, Hughie Hooker scored the eventual game winner and the Brooks Bandits extended their winning streak to four games thanks to a 5-2 victory over the Okotoks Oilers on Friday at the Centennial Regional Arena.
The Bandits (7-1-1) went 2/5 on the powerplay and 2/2 for the penalty kill as they jumped back into 1st place in the AJHL with 15 points. Brooks outshot Okotoks 30-21.
Forward Ethan Dekay (Michigan Tech) opened the scoring at 7:58 into the 1st, snipping a shortside, right circle shot that trickled past Oilers starter Parker Sawka to make it 1-0. But Okotoks would respond at 11:45, as Conyr Hellyer one-timed a Sam Huck pass to make it 1-1. Shots were 7-6 Oilers in the period.
Brooks reclaimed the lead at 9:22 of the 2nd, as Fink (Wisconsin) scored on a wraparound backhander to make it 2-1. At 12:06, Hooker one-timed a Nathan Free (Penn State) pass to increase the lead to 3-1. Okotoks got one back at 16:55, as Nick Wolfenberg scored on a point shot to cut the Bandits lead to 3-2. Brooks doubled the Oilers in shots in 2nd, 16-8.
The Bandits pulled away in the 3rd, as Free scored from the high slot on a drop back pass from Hooker at 7:41 to make it 4-2. Bandits goaltender Ethan Barwick (Lindenwood) denied Huck on a breakaway, and Fink sealed the deal with a one-timer pass from Elliot Dutil (Lindenwood) at 14:05 to make it 5-2 Brooks, the final.
The rematch with the Oiler goes Saturday, October 8th in Okotoks. Game time is 7:00 pm, listen to the game live on Real Country 105.7 FM.
