The Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week for the second time in January 2017 is Brooks Bandits forward Oliver Chau. In three games, Chau accumulated 7 points, including 2 goals and 5 assists. Chau has recorded points in nine of the last ten games for the streaking Bandits, who now have 14 consecutive wins.
Oliver Chau, 19, recorded 2 assists on January 17th in a 5-2 win over the Camrose Kodiaks. On January 20th, he scored a goal and 2 assists in a 13-1 defeat of the Calgary Mustangs. Chau (Oakville, ON) then added a goal and an assist in a 3-1 victory over the Calgary Canucks on January 21st and was rewarded as the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game.
Chau is third in the AJHL scoring race with 26 goals, 37 assists and 63 points. He leads the league in powerplay goals with 16, double the number of the second place powerplay leader. Chau is averaging 1.5 points per game in his first AJHL season. The Brooks Bandits currently have 4 players in the Top 10 of the AJHL Scoring Race.
Oliver Chau has committed to the University of Massachusetts (NCAA Division I).
