Free scores twice, Maxfield shuts out Oilers 4-0 to wrap up perfect Preseason

BROOKS, AB (September 9, 2023) – The Brooks Bandits are on to the Regular Season after sweeping a three-game week of Exhibition games vs Okotoks, capped off by a 4-0 blanking of the Oilers on Saturday at the Centennial Regional Arena.

Goaltender Wilson Maxfield (Kelowna, BC) made 12 saves for the shutout, while Nathan Free (Calgary, AB) scored a pair of goals in the win.

Forward Logan Sawyer (Orangeville, ON) opened the scoring at 15:28 on the powerplay, finishing off a cross-crease pass from forward Josh Wiebe (Calgary, AB) to make it 1-0. Shots were 13-3 for the Bandits.

Forward Mirko Buttazzoni (Langley, BC) doubled the lead on the powerplay at 11:59 of the 2nd period, cleaning up an uncovered puck on the powerplay to make it 2-0.

Forward Nathan Free (Calgary, AB) goals came in the 3rd period to put the game away. He sniped a top shelf shot at 4:45 to make it 3-0, and then wristed a powerplay goal at 6:54 to give Brooks the 4-0 advantage.

Final shots were 32-12 Bandits, with Brooks getting three powerplay goals.

The Bandits open the 2023-24 Regular Season on Friday, September 15th in Drayton Valley, followed by a trip to Whitecourt on Saturday, September 16th to face the Wolverines. Both games are at 7:00 pm.

The Bandits 2023 Home Opener is Friday, September 22nd vs the Sherwood Park Crusaders. Prior the game will be a free tailgate party, followed by player introductions and banner ceremony. Tickets are available at brooksbandits.ca.
