BROOKS, AB (May 9, 2016) – The Brooks Bandits, champions of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL), will open their play at the 2016 RBC Cup national championship tournament in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan on Saturday, May 14th, 2016 against the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) and Dudley Hewitt Cup champion Trenton Golden Hawks.
The Bandits’ opening game will be the first game of the tournament, with puck drop scheduled for 3:30 PM.
The following day, Sunday, May 15th, the Bandits will feature in a prime-time affair against the Western Canada Cup (WCC) and British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) Champion West Kelowna Warriors at 7:30 PM, in the third meeting of the season between the two teams, after a 1-1 split during the WCC.
After an off day on Monday, May 16th, the Bandits will return to action Tuesday, May 17th, taking on the host Lloydminster Bobcats at 7:30 PM.
A subsequent off day on Wednesday, May 18th will give way to the Bandits’ round-robin finale on Thursday, May 19th when they take on the Fred Page Cup champion Carleton Place Canadians of the Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL) at 3:30 PM.
The top four teams in the tournament round-robin will advance to the two semi-final games scheduled for 2:30 PM and 7:30 PM on Saturday, May 21st. The top-seeded team will choose in which of the two timeslots it will host the #4-seeded team.
The winners of each semi-final will then compete for the national title on Sunday, May 22nd at 4:00 PM, in a game televised nationally on TSN.
All games involving the Bandits at the 2016 RBC Cup will be broadcast on the Bandits’ official broadcast partner, Q105.7 FM, with pre-game coverage beginning half an hour before the scheduled puck drop.
