FORT MCMURRAY, AB (October 17, 2023) – Brendan Holahan earned his first career AJHL shutout, the penalty kill went 6/6 and the Brooks Bandits blanked the Oil Barons 5-0 on Tuesday at Centerfire Place.
The Bandits (11-1) have won nine straight games, and have shut out opponents four times this season through 12 games.
Forward Ty Mason (Weyburn, SK) opened the scoring at 6:11 of the 1st period, firing a forehand shot that went off the inside crossbar to make it 1-0. Holahan made a scorpion-like save on the penalty kill, sticking up his right leg and robbing the Barons on the powerplay.
Brooks doubled the lead to 2-0 at 15:30 of the 2nd period, as defenceman Jack Kachkowski (St. Albert, AB) fired in a right circle shot, his first career AJHL goal.
Forward Parker Lalonde (Aberdeen, SK) tapped in a Caelan Fitzpatrick (Moose Jaw, SK) pass to extend the lead to 3-0. At 9:07 Fitzpatrick blasted a one-timer pass from Mirko Buttazzoni (Langley, BC) to make it 4-0. Then, forward Logan Sawyer (Calgary, AB) one-timed a pass from Hughie Hooker (Brandon, MB) on the powerplay to make it 5-0, the final. Shots were 36-18 Brooks, who’ve won 13 straight games in Fort McMurray.
The Bandits continue their road trip on Wednesday, October 18th when they visit the Bonnyville Pontiacs. Game time is 7:00 pm.
