BROOKS, AB (May 2, 2021) – TJ Hughes scored twice, and Ethan Barwick made 16 saves in relief for Jared Whale, who left the game in the 1st period after making one save, as the Brooks Bandits beat the Olds Grizzlys 5-1 on Sunday at the Centennial Regional Arena.
Whale started the game, but left after he was hit by Grizzlys forward Kaiden Kanderka. Barwick came in and stopped 16 shots. Brooks improved to 16-1 and won all three games vs Olds this weekend, outscoring the opponent 18-6.

After a scoreless 1st period, forward Chris Pappas (St. Lawrence) opened the scoring just 23 seconds into the 2nd period, as he fired a one-timer on Martin, who made the save but the puck landed into the net to give Brooks a 1-0 lead. The Bandits increased the lead to 2-0 as forward Sean Chisholm (Dartmouth) scored from the right circle on the powerplay at the 1:42 mark for his league-leading 17th of the year.
Brooks increased their lead to 3-0 as Hughes (Robert Morris) tapped in a forehand shot at 13:18, followed by an Owen Cole (UMass-Lowell) goal at 15:15, who tipped in a Zach Bookman (Merrimack) point shot on the powerplay to make it 4-0. Shots were 18-4 Brooks.
The Bandits added to their lead in the 3rd period, as Hughes finished off a tic-tac-toe play to make it 5-0 at 12:43. The Grizzlys spoiled the shutout bid at 18:31 on the powerplay as Leroux scored from the right circle, but that’s as close as they would get. Final shots were 39-17 Brooks.
