Nathan Plessis named AJHL Player of the Month

BROOKS, AB (October 3, 2018) – Brooks Bandits captain and leading scorer Nathan Plessis (Salmon Arm, B.C.) has been named the first Alberta Ford Dealers Player of the Month for the 2018-19 Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) season, the league announced today.

Plessis, 20, is currently the highest scoring player in the AJHL, having recorded 15 points (4 goals, 11 assists) in 7 games, helping to lead the team to a 6-1 record, its best start in five years. No other player in the AJHL has more than 12 points.

The captain’s hot start included a career high in points on September 16th when he scored 2 goals and 2 assists in a 9-3 win over the Calgary Canucks on the road. He has scored at least 1 point in every game he has played so far this year, and has recorded multi-point games in all but 2 of his appearances. His 7-game season-opening point scoring streak is the longest in the AJHL, tied with his teammate William Lemay (Marieville, QC).

Plessis was the Bandits’ second-highest goal scoring player last season with 21 goals in 51 games, and is only 7 points away from surpassing his point total from his rookie campaign in 2016-17.

He is the first Bandit to win the AJHL Player of the Month award since Oliver Chau won in January of 2017.

The Bandits are back in action on Saturday night in Canmore taking on the Eagles in search of a seventh consecutive win, before returning home Monday, October 8th at 4:00 PM for a special Thanksgiving Day game against the Okotoks Oilers. Tickets are available at tickets.brooksbandits.ca and are free for all fans under 18.
