BROOKS, AB (February 1, 2017) – Brooks Bandits rookie forward Oliver Chau (Oakville, ON) has been named the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) Player of the Month for January of 2017, the league announced today.
Chau, 19, recorded 22 points (5 goals, 17 assists) in 11 games in an undefeated month for the Bandits in January, including a career high 5 point game against the Olds Grizzlys on January 11th.
The two-point-per-game month allowed Chau to rise up the AJHL scoring leaderboard, where he now sits in third place in overall scoring with 67 points (28 goals, 39 assists) in 46 games, second in league goal scoring, and third in assists.
Chau also leads the AJHL by far in power play goals with 17, having recently tied the Bandits’ franchise record for that category set by Curtis Glencross in 2001-02. No other player in the AJHL has more than 9 power play goals.
The University of Massachusetts commit is the second Bandit to receive the Alberta Ford Dealers Player of the Month Award in the 2016-17 season, joining fellow Bandit and fellow UMass commit Cale Makar (Calgary, AB) who won the award in November of 2016.
