BROOKS, AB (September 27, 2022) – The penalty kill went 8/8, Ethan Barwick made 30 stops, and the Brooks Bandits downed the Camrose Kodiaks 6-2 at the Centennial Regional Arena on Tuesday.
With the win, the Bandits (4-1-1) moved into 1st place in the AJHL with 9 points.
Brooks opened the scoring at 4:58 as Hunter Wallace (RPI) tucked in a short-side forehand shot to make it 1-0. Forward Danylo Korzhyletskyi made it 2-0 at 5:38, scoring with a backhand shot on the breakaway. But Camrose got one back at 12:18, as Levi Carter tapped in a corner pass to make it 2-1.
Bandits forward Dario Beljo (AIC) made it 3-1 at 3:15, cleaning up a point shot and scoring on a backhand. But Camrose would one get back at 10:06, as Ethan Short finished off a pass from the bottom of the circle to make it 3-2.
Brooks got the insurance goal at 6:56 of the 3rd, as defenceman Sam Court (New Hampshire) finished an end-to-end rush, scoring from the corner to make it 4-2. The goal led to a goaltender change, as Robert Andreakos was switched for Liam Bechthold. The Bandits made it 5-2 at 16:48 as Hudson Malinoski (Providence) scored five-hole, capped off by an Elliot Dutil (Lindenwood) backhand goal at 18:26 to finish the game 6-2.
The Bandits head to the 2022 AJHL Showcase, facing the Drayton Valley Thunder on Thursday, September 29 at 8:00 pm. That’s followed by a 4:30 pm date with the Fort McMurray Oil Barons on Friday, September 30 at 4:30 pm. Both games will be broadcast on Real Country 105.7 FM and HockeyTV.
